Cookie policy – Socceroddshub.com
Odds tables and match guides need very little technology, and Socceroddshub.com keeps it that way. The paragraphs below list the cookies and similar tools in use, the reason for each and the way to refuse or alter them. A cookie is a small text file saved by a browser on a device; local and session storage entries and counting pixels behave in much the same manner.
What the law requires
Regulation 6 of the Privacy and Electronic Communications (EC Directive) Regulations 2003 (PECR) governs this. Storing information on a user’s device, or reading information already kept there, needs clear and comprehensive information plus the user’s consent, unless the storage is strictly necessary to provide a service the user asked for. Consent must reach the UK GDPR standard (Article 4(11) and Article 7): freely given, specific, informed and unambiguous, and as easy to withdraw as to give. If cookies lead to the processing of personal data, the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018 apply in addition.
Files set without a choice
Some files are needed for the site to run dependably. They hold a session open, share load between servers, guard forms against abuse and record the cookie choice itself. No separate choice is asked for them. Session files vanish when the browser closes, and the saved choice lasts at most twelve months.
Files set only after consent
Functional files remember settings, for instance which odds comparison tables were opened last. Analytics files count page views and show which pages are read, so that the content can be improved. Both kinds wait for consent in the cookie banner. IP addresses are shortened for analysis, and no profile following behaviour across different sites is built.
Outside services
Embedded videos or maps from other providers may set files of their own, and the provider’s privacy rules then apply as well; an objection to them goes to that provider. Advertising cookies that build profiles for personalised ads are not set by Socceroddshub.com without a clear choice in the consent banner.
Changing or withdrawing consent
The “Cookie settings” link in the footer reopens the choice at any time. Withdrawal works for the future only and leaves earlier processing lawful. Browsers also let their users block and delete cookies in their own privacy settings. Once the necessary files are deleted the banner returns, and a few features may briefly stop working.
Complaints
A complaint about how personal data is handled can go to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO), the UK’s supervisory authority. How personal data is processed is explained in this site’s privacy policy.
